Overview
AvaTrade was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Dublin. It is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland, ASIC, Japan's FSA, South Africa's FSCA and the BVI FSC, and offers CFDs and FX options on its own app, WebTrader, MetaTrader 4 and 5 and the AvaSocial copy-trading app.
Pros
- More top-tier licences than almost any broker on this list, including the Central Bank of Ireland and Japan's FSA
- Twenty years of operating history
- Automated trading and EA support across several platforms
Cons
- Minimum deposit, spreads and leverage are not on the pages we read; they depend on the entity that onboards you
- Products and leverage differ a great deal between the EU, Japanese and BVI entities
- A richer platform list also means more to learn
Our review
AvaTrade's strongest card is its regulatory footprint. The group publishes licence numbers for the Central Bank of Ireland, ASIC in Australia, the Financial Services Agency in Japan, the FSCA in South Africa and the BVI Financial Services Commission, and states that client funds are segregated. Few brokers serving retail traders can list that many top-tier regulators.
The company has been trading since 2006 and describes itself as a pioneer of online forex. Platforms include MetaTrader 4 and 5, a WebTrader, the AvaTrade App, AvaSocial for copying other traders and support for automated systems. FX options sit alongside CFDs on forex, indices, commodities, stocks and crypto, and AvaProtect is a paid way to insure a single trade for a period.
The pages we read do not state minimum deposit, spreads or leverage, because those depend on which AvaTrade entity takes you on. The trade-off is clear: a Bangladeshi client will most likely be onboarded to the BVI entity, which is the least protective of the five, so check that before assuming the Irish or Japanese rules apply.
